Education and training

Prescribers and pharmacists are being supported during the rollout of SafeScript NSW and will have ongoing access to eLearning modules, virtual learning sessions, quick reference guides, fact sheets and more.

Accredited eLearning modules - now available

NSW Health has partnered with NPS MedicineWise to develop several eLearning modules and training information. The modules are accredited as part of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for doctors, pharmacists and nurse practitioners.

While the eLearning modules are available to all prescribers and pharmacists across NSW, SafeScript NSW is being implemented in a phased state-wide approach and the system will only be available to health practitioners in Hunter New England and Central Coast regions from late October.

Prescribers and pharmacists in regions outside of Hunter New England and Central Coast are welcome to complete the eLearning modules, however, they will not be invited to access SafeScript NSW until the first half of 2022.

eLearning module 1: The SafeScript NSW System - what, when and how?

Duration: approximately 45 - 60 minutes

This module provides an overview of SafeScript NSW. It provides health practitioners an opportunity to update their knowledge on the increasing harms from high-risk prescription medicines, and to learn how SafeScript NSW provides additional information to assist with clinical decisions when prescribing or dispensing high-risk medicines.

eLearning module 2: Monitored medicines and clinical practice (for prescribers)

This module provides prescribers an opportunity to consider how they manage safety concerns about patients with prescription medicine dependence or those showing signs of high-risk use. It explores planning approaches for the consultation, strategies for collaboration with other health professionals, whole of practice/service approaches to ensure equity and safety for everyone and provides an opportunity to review available management and treatment options.
